| Applications
The Standard nozzles are
used for broadcast applications of pre and post emergent herbicides,
fungicides and insecticides. They are often used with knapsack sprayers
where the nozzles are used in conjunction with a 2, 3 or 4 nozzle boom
fitted to the hand lance, reducing the application time. Although best
suited to multi nozzle applications, flat fan nozzles are also widely
used in vector control programs for use with compression sprayers
to apply residual insecticides to walls and flat surfaces in buildings
for mosquito control.
Installation
- Crop Sprayer
To ensure uniform target
coverage the boom height must be correctly adjusted in relation to the
target and for the nozzle spacing used on the boom. The figures shown
below will provide a 50% overlap ensuring an overall even distribution.
Note that the height is measured from the nozzle to the target, whether
it be soil or vegetation. Always take into account the height of the
vegetation.
Ideally the nozzles should be offset by approximately 5° to the boom in
order to minimize interference between the spray patterns and to avoid
droplets coalescing between the nozzle and the target. Most standard
nozzle holders offset the spray by 5°. Check for evenness of spray
distribution at target level under the boom. This is best achieved by
spraying out water onto dry concrete and watching it dry out. If it
tends to dry in stripes then this indicates that the boom is possibly
too low. Adjust boom height and repeat until water dries evenly.
It is always better to set the boom height slight above rather than
below the figures stated, since under field conditions boom bounce can
dramatically alter the nozzle height. However it is wise to avoid
excessive boom heights since this will increase potential spray drift.

Installation
- Knapsack Sprayer
To ensure the desired
swath width is achieved, the boom must be maintained at a constant
height as indicated in the application
rates. A suitable chain or weighted cord attached to the boom
between nozzles and adjusted in length to just contact the target with
the nozzle at the appropriate height, will help in maintaining a
constant height when spraying. Ideally the nozzles should be offset by
approximately 5° to the boom in order to minimize interference between
the spray patterns and to avoid the droplets coalescing between the
nozzle and the target. Ensure that any preset pressure regulator fitted
to the knapsack sprayer or hand lance is set for the correct pressure
operation before commencing to spray. Read equipment manufacturer's
operating manual.
